The Overkill is an art, gaming, film and music festival. Artists, curators, film & game makers and creative thinkers are invited to help us redefine ourselves as individuals, species, society and connected beings. The festival features interactive installations, indie games, VR, alternative films, experimental lives, talks, workshops… In 2022, The Overkill explores sensorial healing in the digital realm.

HEAL ROYALE

A gathering to reboot your (digital) self

The Overkill HEAL ROYALE investigates the way in which technology and digital culture, while exposing people to a constant flow of input, also can provide spaces for online expression and beneficial practices. The festival has named three narratives, following gaming archetype to create a collective, transformative and sensorial experience.

The first chapter about Healers, explores how technology and spirituality are connected. Within this narrative there will be attention for traditional care, meditative technology and liberating sessions in which the expression of pain, frustration and discrimination are also given a place in the healing process.

The second narrative Gathering of witches we link the Witches archetype to the dream of digital commoning. Within online games and rituals, glitches and indigenous traditions, alternative and radical ways are sought to replace the prevailing capitalist and binary systems.

Within the third narrative Crowds of Sinners, The festival focuses on the possibilities of multi-sensory play, including a reflection on the problematic sides of digitization and inclusion.

What can I find at the festival ?

The Overkill festival presents an exhibition with interactive and digital art, video games and installations, workshops, a film program, live music, performances, and an hybrid symposium/dinner.

To access the festival you need a valid ticket. You can buy the ticket online or at the entrance PIN only.
We have adult tickets, student tickets and social tickets. The festival is for free for children under 16.00. The night program (after 22.00) is 18+

The exhibition is on two floors (2nd of Warp Technopolis and Sickhouse).
At Sickhouse you will also find the cinema, the bar, the catering, the terrace and the podium.
Check the program’s schedule to find where are your favourite programs.
You need to register to participate to most of the workshops.

Is there drinks and food at the festival ?

The Overkill is hosted at Sickhouse, where a bar with all kind of drinks is available, from coffee to cocktails.

On Friday 28-10, Saturday 29-10, Sunday 30-10 and Friday 4-10 there will be a small vegan catering service from ETN Salad. From 18.00 to 20.30
On Saturday 29-10 There will also be Pizza’s from Pizza Force :). After 21.00

Is the festival accessible for everyone ?

The Overkill festival is a safe space.
We ask everyone who enters the festival to be kind and respectful to everyone else. We do not tolerate any form of sexual intimidation, discrimination and aggression. It will lead to an immediate removal from the space. Don’t hesitate to contact any of crew if you encounter any problem.

The main exhibition of the festival is hosted at Sickhouse.

Distance from central train station: 96 meter.
Distance from bus station: 170 meter
Parking: Parkeergarage Stationsplein, distance: 100 meter.
Sickhouse is sadly only accessible by stairs (2 and 3 floors high).
Sickhouse is on the top two floors of WARP Technopolis. The building itself, the exhibition space and Sickhouse, are filled with lights in different colours and moving images. There will be sounds coming from the artworks. In the exhibition area, you will find a ‘quiet’ room where you can stay and relax, without a lot of input from the outside. However, sounds still might be present from the surrounding exhibitions.

Sensomnia is a multi sensory rave, created in collaboration with deaf and hard of hearing colleagues. It is our intention to make the event as welcoming as possible for everyone.

Metropool is accessible by wheelchair. Metropool asks to make a special reservation when you come by wheelchair, you can do that through their website; www.metropool.nl . Metropool is a big, open venue. During Sensomnia, we are focussing on all the senses, so there will be visuals, smells, sounds, lights, and food to taste.

Symposium, Wednesday 2 November
Location : Tankstation Cultureel Vulpunt,

Distance from central station: 550 meter
Distance from bus station: 700 meter
Distance from Sickhouse: 500 meter
Parking: all around Tankstation Cultureel Vulpunt are paid parking spots
Tankstation is accessible by wheelchair. The toilets however are regular sized toilets, without accessibility system. During this evening, we eat and cook together, while the guests of the symposium will talk. This is an experimental Hybrid event combining on site and online guests. This will also be live streamed to watch from your house, with subtitles as much as possible.

The Overkill festival is for everyone. Children are also welcome under the supervision of adults. The evening and night program is for 18 +.
The festival is free for Children under 16.

Accesibility

The Overkill’s main exhibition, cinema and workshop program are hosted on the 2nd and 3rd floor of the building, which are sadly only accessible by stairs.
Some of these events will be accessible online, check out the program to find out which ones.

Sensomnia, the opening afterparty, is hosted in Metropool. The multi sensory rave is created in collaboration with deaf and hearing impaired colleagues. It is an attempt to create raves for a larger public, with sign interpreters and multi sensory stimulations.

This year the Symposium of The Overkill is a dinner. It will take place in Tankstation which is accessible for everyone.

The Overkill festival is organised and produced by Sickhouse’s team. We are able to present our ambitious and carefully selected programs thanks to the support of different public and private fundings and the incomes of the entrance and bar. The festival is able to pay its team and all the artists participating in the programs and welcoming you is only possible thanks to the support of our amazing volunteers.

The Overkill festival is working hard to respect the Fair Practice code for Fair Pay, Fair Share, Fare Chain.

We are asking you to support us in this with an entrance fee.

DAY TICKETS gives you access to the festival for one day, all the programs of that day are included (on the opening day you will need an extra ticket for Sensomnia).

WEEKEND TICKETS (28 to 30-11): gives you access for The Overkill from Friday 28-10 to Sunday 30-10. You will need another ticket to access Sensomnia, but the rest of the weekend programs are included within this ticket.

FESTIVAL TICKETS (28/10 to 4/11): Gives you access to all the days and weekend of the festival. You are welcome at Sensomnia and you will be contacted for the Symposium/dinner, since we need registration in order to prepare the right amount of seats.

SYMPOSIUM (WEDNESDAY 2-11) TICKETS : On Wednesday is our symposium/dinner taking place at Tankstation. When you buy a day ticket for Wednesday you will be contacted about your participation to the symposium/dinner. (no extra costs).

SENSOMNIA (FRIDAY 28-10) TICKETS : Tickets for the Multi Sensory rave on the opening night of the festival. The party is in Metropool, accessible to everyone, created with deaf and hard of hearing colleagues.

COMBI TICKETS SENSOMNIA. This tickets is a great deal to combine your visit of the festival with our multi sensory rave Sensomnia.
FRIDAY COMBI includes the network program and the opening night of the festival at Sickhouse on Friday 28-10 + the multi sensory rave in Metropool.
WEEKEND COMBI includes all the programs of the weekend from Friday 28-10 to Sunday 30-10 + the multi sensory rave in Metropool.

ROODKAPJE BUS TOUR “Witch way to The Overkill festival”. This ticket is a special ticket for people in Rotterdam, for Saturday 29-10.

If you are not able to pay for your ticket but you would love to visit us, you can join the volunteer family or apply for a social ticket. We have 50 social tickets available for the festival.
